HR Healthcheck

Managers, leaders and Boards of social sector organisations will want to know whether their organisation is legally compliant with employment law and practice.

Our HR healthcheck product audits your HR framework and delivers a prioritised HR action plan to ensure that compliance and better practice in appropriate areas is being achieved.

What is a HR Healthcheck?

An HR Healthcheck from Roots HR is an audit of your current HR framework. A report is produced highlighting acceptable practice and areas of non-compliance. Priorities to address non-compliance are highlighted in order of risk to the organisation.

When would an HR Healthcheck be beneficial?

An HR health check can be undertaken at any time to ensure compliance. It may be beneficial to a social sector organisation:

  • which has experienced growth and may be concerned that their HR systems and processes are no longer fit for purpose
  • who is undergoing, or about to undergo, a strategic planning cycle to ensure that their HR framework will support the strategic goals of the organisation
  • when significant changes happen to employment legislation to ensure compliance

How we conduct an HR health check

The Healthcheck process is typically as follows:

  1. We provide you with a questionnaire for completion
  2. We request copies of HR policies and documents (as per list below and we ask you to send these across if they exist within the organisation)
    • Standard templates for contract(s) of employment
    • Casual worker agreements or zero-hours contracts as standard templates
    • Grievance procedure
    • Disciplinary procedure
    • Equal Opportunities policy / Equality policy
    • Maternity / Paternity / Adoption policy / Family Friendly policy
    • Bullying and Harassment policy / Dignity at Work policy
    • Acceptable Use of IT policy
    • Data Protection policy
  3. On receipt of the above information we undertake a desktop review of your documents and an initial assessment of your practices
  4. We schedule and undertake a call with a representative of the organisation to discuss the answers to the questionnaire and your practices in more detail
  5. We write and provide you with the report setting out fitness for purpose of your practices and documentation and a priority list of recommendations.

Tailored and bespoke areas for health checking (e.g., Recruitment and Selection, Equality and Diversity, Performance Management, Pay and Benefits) can also be provided upon request..

How much will an HR health check cost?

All work will be scoped with you and a proposal is provided for your review and approval.

I only need help with a one-off piece of work, will I have to sign up to monthly fees?

No – you won’t be signed up to any monthly fees or subscriptions. We’ll work with you to scope of the work, provide you with a quote for the one-off project – no hidden fees or contracts!
