Restless, sharp and an astute manager of risk, Jan Golding has been passionate about society, business opportunity, people and work since her teens.
Academic interests in social sciences and economics led to a UK-wide career in sales management, training and later human resources, working in the retail, hospitality and service sectors but it was talking to street homeless people that sparked Jan’s desire to use her skills, knowledge and experience within social sector organisations. She joined a substance misuse charity as Director of Support Services in 2005.
Inspired by Social Enterprise week 2008, she founded Roots Human Resources CIC in January 2009 with the aim of growing an ethical company to fill the gap in HR service provision to small and medium-sized social sector employers. The company was immediately successful and after 12 years as CEO, Jan stepped down in a semi retirement move in 2021 and now works as an Associate HR Consultant for us.
Jan is a fully qualified and highly experienced senior Human Resources professional with a career in people management in the service industries spanning 30+ years. She is a pragmatic and clear adviser, an experienced coach and an excellent project manager and has a specialist interest in contentious casework and dispute resolution. Her experience gained as a Director, a management volunteer and a consultant enable her to quickly grasp the social and financial drivers of an organisation, to identify its culture and to support and challenge its leaders to improve performance.
Jan is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development with 20 years post-qualification experience. She has subsequently undertaken advanced training in employment law and in workplace investigations and routinely undertakes ongoing continuous professional development in these areas. She has recently gained the TCM National Certificate in Workplace Mediation and holds NVQ 3’s in How the Board is Working and Organisational Development.
